Sneak Peek"Darren, you're not listening to me!" I continued to flip through the papers in front of me, desperately trying to find a lead.
"I'm so close Rachel, I can feel it. I have to find them, they're my family, if I can't...... The world won't be worth living." A sob sounded behind me, and I turned around fast, realizing my mistake. "Baby, I- I didn't mean it. I-" "No! You did mean it Darren! I'm not good enough for you! You're mate isn't good enough for you. I hope you find your family Darren, I really do, but I'm not going to be here when you do." I held my fist to my mouth, trying to keep from crying myself. "Rachel, baby please. I didn't.... I didn't mean what I said. I can't lose you. I, I try so hard to be here for you, but I just... I have to know where my parents are." "You try to be there for me?! Are you kidding? Darren, we've been together for six months, or God's sake we haven't even finished the mating yet! Hell, we haven't even gone on a date yet! You still know nothing about me!" "I know a lot about you Ra-" "What's my favorite drink?" "Rachel that's not-" "What, is my favorite drink, Darren?" "Uh....... water?" "Not even close, God, I don't know why I put up with this for so long....." "Rachel, that was a stupid question. You don't even know my favori-" "Coffee, black, two sugars and a dash of cream. Your favorite food is Chicken Alfredo and your favorite color is blue." "Rachel..... I-" "No, Darren. I'm done. Good luck finding your family." |

Sneak PeekAs we pulled up in front of my new home, I was immediately filled with not only shock, but uttter terror.
My new home looked like a straight up gangster palace. The window's were blown out, the wood had rotted away, and like that wasn't the worst of it, the door was wide open, and from the looks of it, didn't even have a lock. It was a gangster's paradise. My father, Robert Herring, stepped out of the car, followed by my mother. Both had light blonde hair, and hazel eyes. They were the perfect couple, we were the perfect family. I had straight A's, I've never gotten in a fight, I've never even looked at a bottle of alcohol, and I've never done drugs. Mommy and daddy's perfect little girl. A short, plump man walked out of my new house, a black fedora placed on his bald head. He waddled down the driveway, until he reached our car. "Mr. and Mrs. Herring, your house is now in perfect condition." At this I had to let out a snort, and I looked at the plump old man. "Perfect condition! It looks like it'll fall apart at any moment!" "Well," The man sneered, his cigarette tasting breath fanning across my face. "Get used to it darling, you're gonna be here a while." I glared at the man, before I began walking to my new 'home'. "I wouldn't be surprised if he was a drug dealer," I muttered, as I stared at the house in distaste. "Oh honey?" My neck snapped behind me, and I faced the old fedora wearing fat man head on. "Yes?" "I am." My face froze, and my eyes turned to my parents, who were talking about how beautiful our new home was. As if! "Well then, I'll be staying away from you now won't I?" I returned, my attention back on the man. "I don't think you have a choice darlin." He patted my head, his grimy hands leaving my hair messed up, and it was this that pissed me off to no end. Who did this man think he was? "Who are you?" "Alessandres Baxter, a man you are not to mess with. You understand me girl?" He sneered, his hand now resting on my neck as he whispered in my ear. "Yes." I hissed, trying to escape his grasp. "Good." He threw me to the ground, and when I turned around to yell at him, he was gone. I already didn't like Portland, and I had a feeling it was about to get a whole lot worse. |

Sneak PeekI sat on my legs, my head in my hands as I sobbed. My mother..... My father..... They're gone. And I can't bring them back. "It's all my fault......." If self-pity is a sin, then I'm surely going to hell. My parents just died in front of my eyes, yet I did absolutely nothing to save them. The bell above the pack's church began to ring, and I tried to calm myself as the pack began to file out of the building. Children and parents skipped happily down the street, completely unaware of the fact that their King on Queen, or Alpha and Luna, were just murdered in front of their daughter's eyes. Berton, our family's most trusted guard, was swinging his little girl happily back and forth when he finally saw my parent's remains. We gave him the day off so that he could be with his family, we thought nobody would try to do anything on account of the fact that it was the five-hundredth anniversary of our town. Apparently, we were wrong. "Oh my Goddess.... Sophia, what on Earth happened?!" He held his daughter to his chest, keeping her gaze away from the bloody scene. More families started to crowd us, and the parents did exactly like Berton had done and shielded the kids' eyes. "I..... I don't know. One minute we were walking down to the church.... And the next minute six men came and... I can't believe this, they can't be gone!" I started crying again, and the rest of the women in the pack followed. My best friend, and cousin, Elliot walked over and held me in his arms as I cried. "Sophie.... I'm so sorry Soph. Your parents, they are... Were, amazing people. Your mother had hat special spark, she made everyone around her happy. But, it's up to you to now Sophia, it's your job to bring the smiles to everyone's faces and keep peace.... You'll make a great ruler Sophia, the only left to do is find your mate." Elliot smiled at me, and as much as I tried to do what he said, and bring happiness to the rest of the pack.... I couldn't. I don't think I'll be able to do something like that, no one will ever be as great as my mother and father. One thing was for sure though.... "Mom, dad.... I'm going to make you proud." |

Sneak PeekQueen Hathaway's P.O.V. That boy was the definition of stupid. I don't know what I did to have such an undeserving child, but I can tell you that that kid is gonna get it. "So he's really dead ma?" My son Jeremy asked from the other line. I shook my head, a slight growl forming in my chest. "Yes Jeremy, your father's really dead." I heard my son sigh on the other end, and I couldn't help the scowl on my face. From what Jeremy had told me, they were watching the news when a segment came on about their father being dead. I don't agree with it at all, I mean come on, my husband isn't dead at all, he's even got a few years left! My husband better have a really good reason for telling the entire kingdom he was dead, or he's going to sleeping alone for the next few years. "Alright mom, I'll see you in a few days. We're bringing Katey with us." "Why would you bring.............." At that moment, everything snapped into place, and the entire thing made sense. My ungrateful son wanted his mate back, and he disrupted a whole world in order to do it. That little........... "I've gotta go Jeremy. I'll see you in a few." I slammed the phone down and pushed out my chair, storming out of my room to the hallway. That son of mine was going to be told off, whether he wanted to be or not. When I was walking down the hall, my son's form at the other end caught my attention. I began to walk towards him, only to have him run into me just when I thought me would stop. I glared at my son, the disappointment clear in my eyes as I looked at him. "So, my husband's dead huh?" |
